Kyrian Jacquet and Aleksandar Vukic meet for the first time, with a probable second-round date against sixth seed Fabian Marozsan waiting for the winner.
Vukic is the obvious favourite and the obvious spoiler in this section. His serve and flat baseline power suit the quicker Hangzhou courts, and he has spent far more time than Jacquet competing in rooms this size. When he finds rhythm early he can shorten points to the two or three shots he actually wants to play, and there is not much an opponent can do about it.
The caveat is form. Vukic has not been convincing for a stretch now, and his level swings match to match rather than game to game. That gives Jacquet a route. The Frenchman defends well and is happy extending exchanges, and if he can drag Vukic into longer rallies the Australian's error count climbs quickly.
The conditions still tilt this. Fast hard courts reward the bigger first strike, and that is Vukic.
Vukic in three, with at least one wobbly set along the way.
